PRP Fountain of Youth?
As we are painfully aware, with age can come fine lines and deep wrinkles. As well as skin laxity around our mouth, cheeks, and eyes, due to dropping of the Malar fat pads in our cheeks, compounded by the loss of up to a teaspoon of fat in our cheeks, each decade once we pass the 30 year mark, causing the appearance of jowls and downturned sad face…And well, then there is the neck. Sigh. Loss of volume also causes a skeletonizing effect with hollows forming in the temples. Our skin can become duller and lacking in that dewy fresh glow as the tone and texture of our skin changes, primarily due to sun damage which sadly began years ago before we ever knew what SPF was. But all is not doom and gloom… there are options for the Age Warriors to help recapture a more youthful appearance. If you are in search of the fountain of youth, one of the fastest growing trends in the medical aesthetics field to rejuvenate your skin are PRP injections…your own natural cosmetic injectable.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), is a great cosmetic injectable treatment for naturally rejuvenating the skin and repairing the signs of aging. The treatment involves re-injecting your own platelet-rich plasma into your skin, delivering an abundance of growth factors to stimulate your body’s normal healing response, helping you to achieve an over-all skin rejuvenation.

There are numerous ways PRP can be administered by your practitioner. PRP treatments work to gradually rejuvenate and lift your skin. At SkinRevision Med Spa, we offer multiple PRP Skin Therapies designed to revitalize your skin, which can be used in tandem with other services offered to address Age Management concerns, with enhanced benefits. If you are ready to look as young as you feel, it’s time to consider PRP injections for a more youthful appearance.

What is PRP?

Because PRP uses your own natural elements, it is very safe. While it is a newer treatment in the medical aesthetics field, it has long been recognized and used in general and sports medicine for its effective wound healing properties. Click here to read more on PRP Medical applications.

Platelet-Rich Plasma injections are an effective way to non-surgically rejuvenate skin and reduce scarring with no downtime. The procedure harnesses your body’s natural healing components not only to rejuvenate but improve overall tone and texture of your skin.

In skincare, PRP, which contains concentrated levels of growth factors, is used to boost collagen and elastin production in the skin helping to tighten, smooth and improve skin tone. PRP can be used topically, such as during Medical MicroNeedling, or injected into the face, neck, decolletage or any other areas being treated. A series of PRP treatments will help you achieve healthier skin from the inside out, as well as ease sun damage and aging skin concerns.
PRP

What is the process?

A simple in-office blood draw is performed, much like at the lab during a blood test. The special collection tube, designed to extract PRP, containing your blood is inserted into a centrifuge and after being spun down, results in the separation of the components of the blood. The portion of the blood containing red blood cells (RBCs) drops to the bottom of the tube, which is discarded.  A white-ish portion of the blood containing fibrin is also discarded, though it is used by other medical practitioners who inject “PRF” to enhance bone development, such as post a tooth extraction to quicken healing.

The portion used for the PRP Treatment, which rises to the top, is known as “Liquid Gold” due to its yellowy color. The plasma portion of blood isolates the platelets and contains a concentrated level of growth factors which work to stimulate collagen and elastin production in areas where it is re-introduced via injections or topically, serving to thicken skin that is thinning with age.

As you may have guessed not all PRP kits used by practitioners to separate the aspects of blood are created equally. Some kits utilize technology that enables higher yields of growth factors than others. Also, when a practitioner uses a larger collection tube, more volume is collected which also results in a higher yield of growth factors. For example, a 10ml tube yields a lower concentration of platelets and growth factors than a 12 ml tube. At SkinRevision, we have searched to find the highest yield collection system on the market.

What are the benefits of PRP Skin Therapies?

PRP Therapy is a minimally invasive treatment that has the ability to naturally restore and revitalize your appearance. PRP is injected into the target areas to create improved tissue health and to stimulate collagen and elastin growth…to enhance the infrastructure of your skin. PRP can help remodel the tissue to a healthier and younger state.

Collagen and Elastin
Think of collagen as rebar and elastin as cement inside a block wall which are the cells of your skin. Collagen and elastin are the infrastructure of your skin.

This minimally invasive treatment has several benefits, including raising levels of collagen and elastin in the skin resulting in the reduction of wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. The injections will also help tighten skin, improve tone and texture, and even lift and fill facial hollows, since collagen and elastin support the infrastructure of our skin. Additionally, PRP Therapy has also been show effective for those suffering from rosacea or acne.

Additional PRP benefits include:

Naturally-induced rejuvenation. The body responds to the induction of PRP the same way it would have if an injury occurred. Therefore, the rejuvenation process is natural and accelerated.

Longlasting results. While a PRP treatment takes only a few minutes to complete, the results, while gradual, are long-term. Results will take between 3 to 4 weeks to appear but are long-lasting, typically 12 to 18 months after an initial series of three treatments.
